$1 million grant announced for Century Village
Governor John Bel Edwards and Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo announced $1 million in grant money is going toward Century Village, the community project anchored by Centurylink and IBM. The grant money is coming from Delta Regional Authority, and will help the city move forward in building sewage infrastructure able to support Century Village. And we wouldn't have the ability to do it without the DRA's participation, not just in Monroe but across the state of Louisiana," says Gov. Edwards. Mayor Mayo is confident the expansion of CenturyLink and IBM will bring great things to northeast Louisiana. "It is significant for the city of Monroe, Ouachita Parish, and northeast Louisiana," Mayo says. The media coordinator for the City of Monroe, Rod Washington, says Century Village will do more than just bring jobs. "They're going to help bring in at least 400 direct jobs to our region. That's a great boost for our local economy. But you've got to not just think about those people who are working for IBM, but those who are married or who have spouses coming into town, and those children who may be now enrolling into our local schools. Then all those tax dollars are coming into our local economy," says Washington.
